How to remove semi permanent color from hair?

I have special effects in devilish in my hair now it is super bright red! I want to go black to black hair. I heard if you do not take the red out the black will fade and you will have to color you hair up to 3 time after changing the color back to black! So I want to know if anyone has a good healthy way to take the red our? or can I just dye black over it?
